Why we are not 'Home Schooling'!

Please, please, please if we want to stop this whole bullshit around the schools bill can we start referring to education done at home to what it really is, Home Education. Schooling only occurs in a school building. Even if we were made to register and follow a curriculum it would still be Home Education!

"We got far more to worry about than terminology. Terminology will differ depending on people & places, people's interpretation or perception is irrelevant, the fight is far more important." I hear you cry.

I disagree, if we want to have our cause taken seriously we need to be the ones in control and we are not schooling our children if we hold responsibility for educating them ourselves. To use the word school to define what we do we are making the powers that want to control think we are schooling. Home educating parents are not schooling by definition of the words and it's roots and history.

It is not semantics, it is not arguing over terminology, it is holding on to the true definition of what education really is, even if that education happens to happen in a school.

Do you know anything about the root beginnings of schools? Did you know they were created to train soldiers originally and then the concept brought here to provide child care for mill workers and again create more good little mill worker children? So schooling is not something we want to be defining as freedom seekers. We want to remove ourselves as far as possible from the word. The sooner freedom fighters wake up to this the better! No point in only half arsed fighting, get it right from the start! I'm not training soliders or workers for the machine, I'm supporting and facilitating free thinking sovereign individuals and I cannot do that if I school them!

The control factions in the UK are trying to make this normalising of the term home schooling so they can turn it into a more controlled thing. If we stand our ground as facilitators and education supporters we are not giving any power to their nefarious agendas.

And I believe this goes for people in countries where there is more control over home ed, because it's referring to it as home schooling that gives the power to the governments to think they can control how and what we teach.

I've appreciated the convo here as always and it's all going into a blog post on my website soon. In the meantime here is a video I made a couple of years back when most folks were forced into having their offspring at home and many were beginning to see the benefits to doing so, but that tricksy word was creeping in.

I believe it's by design from LAs and government because they have been trying to gain control of our young people's education for decades. This argument rattled on 25 years ago when my sister began home ed, nothing has changed since then, but now we are under more pressure to face registration, and I believe it's more important than ever to choose our words wisely!
